SSM honoured the 2026 Celebrating Seniors Volunteer Awards nominees and award recipients during our annual awards banquet at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina on September 27, 2026. The evening was a showcase of the many older adults whose contributions are invaluable as they give of themselves to better the quality of life for others. We thank all of these volunteers for the contributions they make to their respective communities across Saskatchewan. There were 19 nominees over 9 categories, and the audience was truly appreciative of their volunteer service. Once again, the evening’s program was ably guided by MC Barb Byers. Elder Lorna Standingready asked a blessing over the gathering.
Our guest speaker this year was The Honourable Ralph Goodale.
Ralph Goodale is a long-serving Saskatchewan public servant and former federal cabinet minister from Regina. He represented Saskatchewan in Parliament for more than 30 years and held major cabinet portfolios including Finance, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Public Safety. He was Canada’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom for five years, strengthening Canada–UK relations and representing Canadian interests abroad. In 2025, he was recognized as Diplomat of the Year and received the Freedom of the City of London. A longtime Regina resident, Goodale has played a significant role in Canadian public life and Saskatchewan’s representation on the national and international stage.
In speaking to the Celebrating Seniors audience, he voiced his appreciation to the nominees, and spoke of the strong commitment to volunteerism in our province. He recounted some of his experiences over his many years as a Member of Parliament and as a diplomat, and ended his speech with a call to be proud and steadfast in honouring and celebrating our country.
Entertainment this year was provided by Jesse Lamont.
Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Jesse Lamont is a talented singer and performer known for his powerful vocals, charismatic stage presence and ability to connect with audiences. Jesse discovered his passion for performing at age 15 and went on to develop his craft through musical theatre and several years touring with Sask Express. He has performed extensively throughout Saskatchewan and has become recognized as one of the province’s emerging Elvis tribute artists. In 2026, Jesse won gold at the Penticton Elvis Festival, adding to his growing recognition as a performer. His shows combine energy, music and authentic showmanship, leaving audiences entertained and inspired.
His energy permeated the room, and it was hard not to sing along with the well-known songs.
