2025 Celebrating Seniors

SSM honoured the 2025 Celebrating Seniors Volunteer Awards nominees and award recipients during our annual awards banquet at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina on September 28, 2024. The evening was a showcase of the many older adults whose contributions are invaluable as they give of themselves to better the quality of life for others. We thank all of these volunteers for the contributions they make to their respective communities across Saskatchewan.

Our guest speaker was Bill Waiser, Canadian historian and author specializing in western and northern Canadian history.

In his talk, he brought to life the story of fur trader, surveyor, and cartographer David Thompson and his Métis/Cree wife of 58 years, Charlotte Small, emphasizing how Charlotte worked alongside her husband as he explored and mapped the northwest in the pre-Confederation years, even while bearing and raising their children.

Entertainment this year was provided by Focal Point, a trio of Saskatchewan women. Mariah Warriner, Jacqui Wolbaum, and Anita Warriner had the audience clapping and singing along with their music that spanned the decades from the 1940s onward. From the tongue-twisting “Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy” to the heartfelt “What the World Needs Now (is Love)” their music warmed hearts and lifted spirits.

Watch this space for the annual Regina Leader-Post/Saskatoon Star Phoenix celebration of the nominees and award recipients.

A big thank you goes out to our sponsors. Without them it would be impossible to host this prestigious evening! Note that logos are hyperlinks that will take you to the sponsor’s website.
